Relational Geographic Databases

چکیده
This paper proposes a generic relational-database schema that can efficiently accommodate various types of GIS data. The proposed schema complies with the OpenGIS Simple Features Specification for SQL developed by OGC (OpenGIS Consortium) and can be used for any geographic application whose geographic objects are represented based on 2D geometry with linear interpolation between vertices. The generic schema that we propose in this paper makes it possible to automatically generate a relational database schema for any existing or new 2D GIS dataset. This facilitates the migration and deployment of GIS data in well-established relational database environments. Consequently, sharing and integrating GIS data become much more feasible. In addition, since any relational database management system (DBMS) can be used, developing a GIS application system on existing GIS data is facilitated. We verified the proposed schema and automatic schema generation mechanism by developing and testing a relational geographic information system.

متن کاملSpatiotemporal Data Modelling and Management: a Survey
Many data objects in the real world have attributes about location and time. Such spatiotemporal objects can be found in applications such as Geographic Information Systems (CIS), environmental data management and multimedia databases. Traditional relational database technology is not suitable for managing spatiotemporal data, which are multi-dimensional with complex structures and behaviours. ...
متن کاملRepresentation of a 3-d City Model in Spatial Object-relational Databases
Three-dimensional city models become more and more important in many GIS applications. Examples are, apart from simple visualization, city and land use planning as well as telecommunication planning and disaster management. Currently, there are no 3-D GIS available, which are suitable for these applications. For managing large spatial data sets in an efficient and sustainable way, spatial datab...
متن کاملInformation Access through Conceptual Structures and GIS
This paper presents a new technique for information access based on a combination of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and conceptual structures as modeled in relational concept analysis. It is based on the idea that traditional relational databases restrict their data types to linearly ordered scales. Since spatial data are not linearly ordered, they cannot be modeled directly in relational...
